AKA: My go-to tips for finding the perfect piece—without trying it on
I have a confession: I do most of my shopping online. Whether I’m hunting for unique clothing finds or casually browsing from my couch, online shopping is my happy place. But when it comes to second-hand fashion, I totally get the hesitation. You want the quality and the right fit—but how do you know it’s the one when you can’t try it on?
Over the years, I’ve picked up a few tricks that make online thrifting way easier—and way more fun. So if you’ve ever hesitated on a pre-loved piece, here’s how I make sure I’m choosing items that truly belong in my closet (and how you can too).
1. Zoom In on the Photos (and Watch the Videos!)
Photos are everything when you’re buying second-hand online. They show you the fabric, texture, and condition of the item—so zoom in, get nosy, and don’t skip the close-ups.
If there’s a video? Even better. Watching how a piece moves gives you a feel for how it might hang on your body. Whether it's a silky slip dress or a structured blazer, movement matters—especially when you're curating an effortless style.
2. Measurements Matter More Than Labels
One thing I’ve learned from years of shopping sustainable fashion is that size labels are... unreliable at best. A Small in one brand can fit like a Medium in another. That’s why I always look at the measurements—bust, waist, hips, inseam—the whole deal.
Even if you’re eyeing a “Size S,” check the actual numbers. I’ve got a go-to measurement guide that makes this easy, and trust me, it’s a game-changer.
This is especially helpful if you’re building a capsule wardrobe. Fewer pieces, more versatility—so you want each item to really fit and flatter.
3. Ask Questions (Seriously, Ask!)
When in doubt, message the seller. Most of us (me included!) are more than happy to send extra photos, videos, or measurements. So if you’re unsure about something—just ask.
I get tons of DMs and emails with questions, and I love helping people figure out if a piece will work for them. Because at the end of the day, I want you to feel confident in what you’re buying.
This is one of the best parts of ethical clothing—it’s more personal. You’re not buying from a giant chain. You’re talking to someone who knows the item inside and out.
4. Trust Your Gut
When you feel that little yes in your body—that spark of excitement when you see a piece? That’s the sign. Shopping second-hand is less about trends and more about finding what feels like you.
And when it comes to timeless fashion, your instincts are usually spot on.
If you’ve ever felt unsure about a second-hand purchase, you’re not alone. But with the right tools (and a little mindset shift), investing in your wardrobe this way can be so worth it.
And if you ever need help? I’m just a message away.
Because second-hand shouldn’t be second-best—it should be your secret weapon for building a wardrobe you love.
